Fast & Fun Decor Ideas with Burlap

09/29/14, by Megan Steenson

We had so much fun stenciling the table runner in last week’s eNote, not to mention how readily accessible the fabric is these days. We knew we had to explore this project a little more. Here are three more super-simple and oh-so charming projects to try.

Burlap Decor Ideas

You probably know that burlap is available by the yard, but you can also find home decor items in this material. These lampshades (photo a) were purchased locally, but you can find similar styles at Lowes or other retailers. We kept the stenciled patterns simple and the color palette limited, so the look wouldn’t get busy.

When family or friends come together in your home, here’s a whimsical way to offer them words of welcome. Just staple some burlap over a piece of plywood, and use several different styles of stencil letters to express your choice of sentiments (photo b).

There’ll be no confusion at this dinner table — everyone is sure to pick up their own set of utensils thanks to the stenciled numbers on these cute burlap napkins (photo c). The project doesn’t even require stitching since you just unravel a few strands of burlap all around the napkin to create fringe.
