In most kitchens, accessing all of the pots, pans, and dishes can be a challenge. This custom organizer makes it possible to prop large, flat items on edge or keep stacks of dinnerware in place.
Smarter Storage. The organizer shown here is used in drawers under the counter, but it could be used to clear up clutter in a standard cabinet, too. It’s just a sheet of plywood with a grid of holes drilled in it. Pegs positioned in the holes can be adjusted to meet your storage needs.
You’ll start by cutting a sheet of ½” plywood to fit inside your drawer (or the bottom of your cabinet) using a circular saw and a straightedge. Many home centers will do this for you if you prefer. Then lay out the grid of holes. We created a grid for ½”-diameter holes that are 2” apart.
It’s important to drill perfectly straight holes in the work piece. An easy way to do this is with a portable drill guide as shown here. After drilling the grid of holes, make the pegs by chopping ½” dowels into pieces. Choose dowel lengths that suit the contents of your cabinet.
Arranging the pegs and loading the organizer is the rewarding part. Just see how many compartments you can make and how many items you can neatly fit in your cabinet.
