Add even more function and storage to your workspace by creating your own island. You’ll find that this project is surprisingly simple thanks to bases made from ready-to-assemble organizers.
Begin with Bases. Two organizers are connected side by side with woodscrews to form each base. These organizers came with cardboard back panels, which we left off so we could customize the island even more (see next slide).
Once the bases are assembled, cut PVC pegboard to size and use the panels to cover the backs of the bases. Shelf pins fit into the holes of the pegboard to hold medium-density fiberboard (MDF) shelves. The holes are also great spots for hooks that add even more storage.
Add the Top. The top of this island is made from two pieces of ¾” MDF, which get glued face to face. After getting a polyurethane finish, the top was screwed to the bases to complete the island.
