The holiday season stirs up memories of fireplaces and the smell of pine. You can make those memories part of your party by turning a log into a set of custom coasters.
Cutting Coasters. First, find a nice-looking log about 4” in diameter. Cut some clean, flat slices from it using a miter saw or handsaw. Then sand all of the cut surfaces smooth.
When the coasters are cut, you can accent them. One way to do this is with stamped designs. Dab craft paint onto a stamp block, and stamp the coaster. Overlap stamps to create more interesting designs.
To customize the coasters even more, you can add an initial to each one. Hold a letter stencil in place on the coaster, and then dab on paint. This version of the project makes a great gift.
Once the paint is dry, you’re ready to put the coasters to work. Their rustic look can provide a whimsical complement to your holiday decor.
