Coordinated Colors. For this easy project, we picked up some budget-friendly wood plaques at the craft store. Then we got "tintable" chalkboard paint at the home center and had it tinted deep red.

We sanded each plaque, and then sprayed on a white base coat. Applying three light coats will give great coverage.

Next, we brushed on a wide informal stripe of chalkboard paint using a small foam brush. The paint's true color didn't appear until the third coat.

To make a hanger, we inserted cloth ribbon into holes drilled near each end of the plaque. Then we secured the ribbon's ends to the back with tape.

The name plaques can easily be reused at future get-togethers. Just use a felt chalkboard eraser or a damp cloth to wipe off the writing.
